Interview with Archaeologist Dr. David Graves

Interview with Dr. David E. Graves, eminent scholar and field archaeologist with over 35 years of experience in teaching the Bible and archaeology. Dr. Graves holds a Ph.D. in New Testament Theology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.


Dr. Graves has an impressive archaeological background, having worked on numerous significant sites. He was part of the team that discovered and excavated the Dead Sea Scroll cave Q12 (cave 53) near Qumran in 2017. He's been a supervisor at the Shiloh excavations in Israel, worked at the Temple Mount Antiquities Salvage Operation in Jerusalem, and spent 15 seasons as a field supervisor at Tall el-Hammam in Jordan, which may possibly be the site of the ancient city of Sodom.


As an educator, Dr. Graves has taught archaeology at Liberty University's Rawlings School of Divinity and Oxford University in England. He's also led tours of the Ashmolean and British Museums, in Oxford and London. Most recently, he is a lecturer in archaeology with Faith Bible Institute in Monroe, LA, which boasts of over 72,000 students.


Dr. Graves is a prolific author. He’s written over 30 books and numerous articles on Biblical Archaeology. His work often combines his academic expertise with his skills as an artist and illustrator, bringing ancient worlds to life through his dry brush and watercolor paintings.
