About
Journey Through the Old Testament This course provides a structured walk through the historical, literary, and theological foundations of the Old Testament. Students begin with the creation account and early human history, continue through the patriarchal narratives, the Exodus, conquest, monarchy, exile, and return, and conclude by examining how Old Testament themes prepare for the coming of the Messiah. Drawing from the biblical record, archaeological context, and historical data, the course traces the major people, events, and covenant promises that shape the biblical story. Students will learn when key events took place, who the central figures were, how Israel developed as a nation, and how God’s redemptive plan unfolds across centuries. Each lesson includes narrative content, diagrams, timelines, and discussion prompts that reinforce comprehension. Attention is given to major periods such as Creation and Early History, the Age of the Patriarchs, the Exodus and Formation of Israel, the United and Divided Monarchies, the Babylonian Captivity, and the Post-Exilic Restoration. Core theological themes appear throughout, including covenant, repentance, judgment, mercy, the consequences of idolatry, and messianic hope. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Identify major events and eras in Old Testament history Describe key historical figures and their significance Understand the covenantal structure that undergirds Scripture Recognize how the prophets interpreted Israel’s history and called for repentance Explain how the Old Testament points forward to Christ and the New Testament era Designed for use in church, school, or seminary contexts, this course cultivates biblical literacy, reinforces faith, and equips students with the historical and theological framework needed for further biblical studies.
